BarePrat is an informal arena to discuss different topics related to Urban Development – in a broad sense. This events focus is on how service design can better childrens experiences of operating theatres.
After a 20min presentation, the audience is welcomed into the informal discussion. How does this impact our societies?
Dr Aly Walker, a paediatric anaesthesiologist, will share her insights on what place design and creativity has within healthcare. The story of one clinician’s journey of design within the constraints of a hospital offers an inspiring example of determination and belief in the design process. Aly shares practical examples of co-design, designing for inclusivity and looks forward to an evening of stimulating discussion.
Working in Scotland’s largest children’s hospital has inspired Aly’s passion for improving user experience and healthcare environment design. From a starting point of zero budget, she spearheaded a £1 million transformation of the children’s operating theatre department. Aly assembled a team of interior designers, architects, illustrators and environmental psychologists to work alongside the hospital capital planning, infection control and estates departments and created something truly wonderful. Aly regularly visits Norway to deliver design workshops to healthcare professionals, helping them use innovative design approaches for healthcare improvement.
